Aamir Khan

Of the three Khans who have dominated Hindi cinema for three decades, Aamir Khan is the one who turned scarcity into a strategy. Where the others release often, he releases rarely and deliberately, one film every year or two, each treated as a project to be engineered rather than a role to be turned up for.

That reputation as the industry’s perfectionist was built on a real body of work: Lagaan, which he produced and which went to the Oscars; the youth-anthem Rang De Basanti; 3 Idiots and PK, both of which rewrote box-office records in their time; and Dangal, which became a phenomenon as far away as China. He has directed (Taare Zameen Par), hosted socially-minded television, and generally positioned himself as the thinking star.

It does not make him any less of a paparazzi draw. A rare Aamir sighting is exactly that, rare, which is precisely why the lenses swing when he appears.
