Aditya Roy Kapur started as a music-channel VJ and drifted through small film roles before Aashiqui 2 in 2013 turned him, almost overnight, into the brooding romantic lead of his moment. The self-destructing musician he played there set a template audiences kept wanting more of.

The career since has been steady rather than meteoric, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani in an ensemble, the stylish thriller Malang, a nice comic turn in Ludo, and then a well-received move to streaming as the Indian lead of The Night Manager. The younger brother of the producer Siddharth Roy Kapur, he has kept a lower profile than many of his peers.

That reticence, plus a high-profile personal life, keeps the paparazzi curious whenever he surfaces. Our cameras catch him around Mumbai with some regularity.
