Akanksha Puri’s route into this was cabin crew for Kingfisher Airlines, which is not a sentence you get to write about many actors. Born in Indore in 1988 to a father who was an Assistant Commissioner of Police and a mother who is an astrologer, she finished college, took the airline job, and started modelling in 2010.

Calendar Girls in 2015, directed by Madhur Bhandarkar, was the Hindi film debut. She has worked across Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada cinema too, which is a wider spread than her Hindi profile suggests.

Television gave her the real audience. Playing Goddess Parvati in Vighnaharta Ganesh put her in front of a devotional television following that is enormous and almost entirely ignored by the film press. Bigg Boss OTT 2 in 2023 did the rest.
