Akansha Ranjan Kapoor grew up entirely inside the industry without being of it, which is a specific kind of upbringing. Born in 1993 to Shashi Ranjan, an FTII-trained actor and director, and Anu Ranjan, who founded the Indian Television Academy, she went to Jamnabai Narsee School and then took an acting diploma at Whistling Woods rather than simply being handed a launch.
Guilty in 2020 was the debut, and it was not a soft one: a Netflix film about an accusation of sexual assault, with her at the centre of it. It earned her a Filmfare OTT Awards nomination. Ray followed in 2021, and she turned up in Monica, O My Darling alongside Rajkummar Rao, Radhika Apte and Huma Qureshi.
Her elder sister Anushka Ranjan acts too and is married to Aditya Seal, so the family remains comprehensively in the business.
