Amar Upadhyay

Amar Upadhyay is an Indian actor born on 1 August 1976 in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, and raised in Mumbai, an FTII-trained model who became one of the biggest faces of the soap-opera boom. He debuted on television with Tere Mere Sapne in 1996.

Everything changed in 2000 with Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, where his Mihir Virani became a national phenomenon. When the character was killed off in 2001, the outcry was so loud, letters and phone calls flooding the channel, that the show brought him back. He has since worked steadily with Ekta Kapoor across shows like Kalash and Molkki, and was a Bigg Boss finalist.

Old-school leading-man handsome and a Taekwondo black belt, he has stayed a fixture of Hindi television for a quarter-century. He married Hetal Upadhyay in 1999, and the couple has two children.
