Anjali Anand

Anjali Dinesh Anand grew up in the industry rather than arriving at it cold. Her father Dinesh Anand was a working actor, and by her own account she is the daughter of former actor Dinesh Anand, which made her 2017 debut in the Voot web series Untag feel less like a leap and more like a formality.

Television made her a name before cinema did. She led Star Plus’s Dhhai Kilo Prem and then Kullfi Kumarr Bajewala, roles that earned her major recognition and, alongside them, a public profile as one of Indian television’s more outspoken voices on body image and casting bias.

Bollywood eventually caught up. She made her Hindi film debut in Karan Johar’s Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, played Ranveer Singh’s screen sister, and kept busy afterward with Khatron Ke Khiladi 13, Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa, and streaming work including Raat Jawaan Hai and Dabba Cartel. Reliably unbothered by industry pressure to slim down, she has made that refusal something of a public talking point rather than a private grievance.
