Anupam Kher is an Indian actor, director and producer born on 7 March 1955 in Shimla, and one of the most prolific performers in the history of Indian cinema, with well over 500 films to his name. He announced his talent instantly, playing a grieving elderly father in Mahesh Bhatt’s Saaransh (1984) while still in his twenties, winning the Filmfare Award for Best Actor.
Across four decades he has moved effortlessly between comedy, villainy and gravitas, from Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge to A Wednesday, Special 26 and The Kashmir Files. His work reaches beyond India too, including a role in the US series New Amsterdam. He holds two National Film Awards and the Padma Bhushan.
He is married to actress and politician Kirron Kher, and his stepson is actor Sikandar Kher.
