Anupama Chopra is a prominent film critic, journalist, author and director who has been covering Indian cinema since 1993. She founded Film Companion, a digital platform offering curated cinema and entertainment journalism, and serves as chairperson of the Film Critics Guild and director of the Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival. Her work has appeared in major international publications including The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Variety and Sight & Sound.
Chopra is a National Award-winning author whose books include ‘Sholay: The Making of a Classic’ and ‘King of Bollywood: Shah Rukh Khan and the Seductive World of Indian Cinema,’ the latter featured on the New York Times Book Review Editors’ Choice list. She has hosted multiple television shows including ‘Front Row with Anupama Chopra’ on Star World and ‘Picture This’ on NDTV.
Born in Kolkata and educated at St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai and Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism, Chopra is married to filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra. Her sister Tanuja Chandra is a Bollywood film director, and her brother Vikram Chandra is an acclaimed novelist.
