Asha Parekh debuted at 16 in Dil Deke Dekho (1959) opposite Shammi Kapoor, launching a career that would yield over 85 films across four decades. The Hindi cinema fixture earned the nickname ‘jubilee girl’ for her propensity to headline blockbusters, dominating Bollywood from the late 1950s through the 1970s before stepping back from acting in 1995. She led the Cine Artistes’ Association as president from 1994 to 2000, then made history as the first female chairperson of the Central Board of Film Certification, serving from 1998 to 2001.
