Ashok Saraf is the reigning king of Marathi cinema, having appeared in more than 300 films since the late 1960s. Born in Mumbai on June 4, 1947, he transformed Indian comedy with his distinctive style and unparalleled comic timing. His career spans both Marathi and Hindi films, establishing him as one of the most prolific actors in Indian cinema.
Saraf’s most celebrated partnership was with fellow actor Laxmikant Berde, a duo that created some of Marathi cinema’s most memorable comedies across roughly 50 films. This collaboration defined an era of Marathi entertainment and cemented his status as a cultural icon. He is affectionately called Mahanayak and Ashok Samrat by audiences.
