Boman Irani is an Indian actor born on 2 December 1959 in Mumbai, who came to acting remarkably late, after years running a family bakery and working as a photographer, and made up for lost time with one of Bollywood’s most beloved character careers.
He announced himself as the gruff Dr Asthana in Munna Bhai M.B.B.S. (2003), then delivered the role many remember best, the tyrannical college head Viru Sahastrabuddhe, “Virus”, in 3 Idiots (2009), which won him wide acclaim. Across comedy and drama, from Khosla Ka Ghosla to Don, he became a dependable scene-stealer.
He married his college sweetheart Zenobia in 1985, and the couple has two sons.
