Delnaaz Irani has been making people laugh on Indian screens for over thirty years, mostly in roles the credits list somewhere near the bottom and the audience remembers near the top. Born in Mumbai in 1972 into a Parsi Zoroastrian family, she went to J.B. Vachha Girls High School and Jai Hind College, and started out in a Baba Sehgal music video in the early nineties, which is a very specific kind of beginning.

Kavita in Yes Boss got her noticed. Sweetu in Kal Ho Naa Ho made her permanent, a supporting part in one of the most quoted Hindi films ever made, played well enough that people still bring it up twenty years on.

The reality circuit followed: Nach Baliye 1, then Bigg Boss 6, where she lasted 93 days and picked up an audience that had never seen any of the earlier work.
