Deven Bhojani

Deven Bhojani directed Sarabhai vs Sarabhai, which is enough of a sentence for most people to want to shake his hand. Born and raised in Mumbai in a Gujarati family, he went to Gokalibai Punamchand Pitamber High School in Vile Parle and took a commerce degree at NMIMS, and has been a serious theatre man throughout, particularly in Gujarati plays.

Television took him early. He debuted in Shankar Nag’s Malgudi Days in 1987, then spent the nineties and 2000s in the comic and supporting roles that made him familiar: Dekh Bhai Dekh, Tara, Ek Mahal Ho Sapno Ka, Office Office, Khichdi, Baa Bahoo Aur Baby.

Then he directed the first season of Sarabhai vs Sarabhai, playing Dushyant Painter in it as well, and won three best director awards for it: the ITA, the Indian Telly and the Apsara. That show has outlived its own ratings by twenty years and is still quoted daily.
