Devoleena Bhattacharjee

Devoleena Bhattacharjee is an Indian actress and trained Bharatanatyam dancer born on 22 August 1985 into a Bengali family in Sivasagar, Assam. She studied fashion technology in Delhi before her 2011 television debut.

Her defining role is Gopi in StarPlus’s mega-hit Saath Nibhaana Saathiya, which she took over in 2012 and played through 2017, one of Indian television’s most-watched daily soaps. She stayed with the character despite a spinal injury sustained on set, and returned to reprise Gopi in the sequel. She has also been a repeat Bigg Boss contestant.

Devoted to a single iconic role and outspoken off screen, she became one of television’s most recognisable faces. She married Shanwaz Shaikh in 2022, and the couple has a son.
