Dhvani Bhanushali has been heard by more people than most film stars have been watched by. Born in Mumbai in 1998 into a Gujarati family, she started in 2017 with an acoustic version of Humsafar from Badrinath Ki Dulhania, then turned up on Ishare Tere with Guru Randhawa and on Dilbar from Satyameva Jayate.
Vaaste in 2019 is the one that changed the arithmetic. Over 1.7 billion views on YouTube, a number that puts it among the most watched pieces of Indian music ever made, and she was 21. Leja Re did much the same job.
Her father Vinod Bhanushali spent 27 years as President of Global Marketing and Media Publishing at T-Series before leaving in 2021 to start Bhanushali Studios, so she grew up close to the machinery. The voice, though, is entirely hers.
