Dilip Joshi is an Indian actor born on 26 May 1968 in Mumbai, into a Gujarati Brahmin family with roots in Porbandar, whose face is now inseparable from one of the country’s most-watched sitcom characters. He started on the amateur stage at twelve, earning a few rupees a show.
He had small roles in 1990s hits like Maine Pyar Kiya and Hum Aapke Hain Koun..!, but everything changed in 2008 when he became Jethalal Champaklal Gada in Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah. The harried shopkeeper turned him into a national comic institution and won him multiple awards.
Beloved and endlessly quotable, he has ridden a single career-defining role into rare, lasting fame. He is married to Jaymala, and the couple has two children.
