Emraan Hashmi is an Indian actor born on 24 March 1979, who rose through the 2000s as one of Bollywood’s most bankable stars from the Vishesh Films stable. A run of music-driven hits including Murder (2004), Gangster (2006) and Jannat (2008) made him a fixture of the era, and earned him a somewhat unfair reputation he later shrugged off with stronger work.
He won widespread acclaim for The Dirty Picture (2011) opposite Vidya Balan and for Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai (2010), proving his range well beyond the thriller mould. More recently he has reinvented himself as a striking villain, notably in the blockbuster Tiger 3 (2023).
He married Parveen Shahani in 2006, and the couple has a son.
