Farhan Akhtar is an Indian film director, screenwriter, actor, and producer born in 1974 to screenwriter parents Javed Akhtar and Honey Irani. He co-founded Excel Entertainment with Ritesh Sidhwani and launched his directorial career with Dil Chahta Hai (2001), earning a National Award for Best Hindi Feature Film and defining a generation of Hindi cinema.
Beyond direction, Akhtar expanded into acting, earning widespread acclaim for his portrayal of athlete Milkha Singh in Bhaag Milkha Bhaag (2013), winning the Filmfare Award for Best Actor. His subsequent performances in Dil Dhadakne Do (2015), Wazir (2016), The Sky Is Pink (2019), and Toofaan (2021) demonstrated his range across multiple genres.
In 2012, Akhtar founded MARD (Men against Rape & Discrimination) to raise awareness about gender issues among Indian youth. Appointed the first male UN Women Goodwill Ambassador for South Asia in 2014, he balances his entertainment career with social activism.
