Geeta Kapur is the choreographer turned dance-show fixture Mumbai fondly calls Geeta Maa, a nickname earned while judging Zee TV’s Dance India Dance from 2009. She joined Farah Khan’s troupe as a teenager, put in her time as a background dancer in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and Main Hoon Na, and eventually graduated to choreographing films like Fiza, Asoka, Saathiya and the ubiquitous Sheila Ki Jawani.

Her real second act came behind the judges’ table. Alongside Terence Lewis and Remo D’Souza she helped make reality dance television a genuine national obsession, later carrying that authority onto Super Dancer and India’s Best Dancer, where her mix of warmth and blunt critique became the format’s emotional anchor.

Off camera she has weathered the usual reality-TV noise, including a 2015 traffic incident that made headlines, and has been characteristically candid in interviews about staying single, her close bond with Farah Khan, and refusing to soften her opinions for anyone, contestant or troll alike.
