Indra Kumar (born Indra Irani) is an Indian film director and producer. He debuted into direction as well as production with Dil (1990) and then directed Beta (1992), Raja (1995) and Ishq (1997), all four being among the highest-grossing Hindi films of respective years and critically as well as commercially successful. He owes his upbringing and success to his eldest sister Aruna Irani, who looked after all her siblings after their mother passed away.
He followed this with a number of average grossers or commercial failures, except the comedy Masti (2004), which ended with Dhamaal (2007). The film emerged as a major commercial success and finished up as India’s highest-grossing Indian film of the year, with domestic gross earnings of ₹180 million. He had five Filmfare nominations and has also appeared in a number of Gujarati-language films.
