Ishaan Khatter

Ishaan Khatter had every reason to take the easy path and mostly refused it. Born in 1995 to actors Rajesh Khattar and Neelima Azeem, and the younger half-brother of Shahid Kapoor, he could have coasted on the name. Instead his first lead came in Majid Majidi’s Beyond the Clouds, an art film that won him a Filmfare for Best Male Debut, which is not where star kids usually begin.

Dhadak in 2018 was the commercial hit, a remake of Sairat opposite Janhvi Kapoor. Since then he has zigzagged on purpose: the war drama Pippa, where he played Captain Balram Singh Mehta, the British series A Suitable Boy, and the American miniseries The Perfect Couple, which put him in front of a very different audience.

He reads as an actor who would rather be interesting than safe, and the choices back that up.
