Jaaved Jaaferi

Syed Jaaved Ahmed Jaaferi, born December 4, 1963, to legendary comedian Jagdeep, carved out his own distinct identity in Hindi cinema. He became synonymous with the ‘tapori’ archetype, the lovable Mumbai hoodlum, bringing flamboyance and quirky humor to roles that could have been forgettable in lesser hands.

A versatile entertainer, Jaaferi has worked as actor, dancer, singer, choreographer, VJ, and MC. His voice work in animated features reached audiences far beyond his film roles, while his dancing ability remained his consistent calling card. The ‘I am Mumbai’ song became emblematic of his high-energy approach to entertainment.

Jaaferi’s 2014 foray into politics with the Aam Aadmi Party, contesting from Lucknow, demonstrated his willingness to pursue unconventional paths. Father to four children including actor Meezaan Jafri, he continues as one of Indian entertainment’s most recognizable all-around performers.
