Jonita Gandhi

Jonita Gandhi grew up in Canada, singing covers on YouTube long before Bollywood came calling, which makes her one of the more unusual entrants in the playback world, a diaspora kid who reverse-engineered her way into the Indian film industry rather than coming up through it. The voice did the rest.

Since breaking through around 2013 she has sung across Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and more, equally comfortable on a thumping party anthem like The Breakup Song and a delicate film ballad. That range, plus a strong live-performance reputation, has made her a fixture of the concert and awards circuit as much as the recording studio.

She is a familiar face at music events and shows when she is in India. Our cameras catch her on the circuit.
