Kani Kusruti

Kani Kusruti is an Indian actress born on 12 September 1985 in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, to activist parents, a deeply respected performer of Malayalam cinema who has broken through to national and international prominence. She trained in theatre in Kerala and later in Paris, and toured with the company Footsbarn.

She won major festival honours, including Best Actress at the Moscow International Film Festival for Biriyaani. In 2024 she starred in two landmark films: Payal Kapadia’s All We Imagine as Light, the first Indian film to win the Grand Prix at Cannes, and the Sundance-honoured Girls Will Be Girls.

Fiercely principled and quietly powerful, she has become one of the most admired actresses in the country.
