Kanika Dhillon is an Indian screenwriter and producer who has become one of Bollywood’s most distinctive voices in recent years. Born in Amritsar and educated at St. Stephen’s College Delhi and the London School of Economics, she launched her career as a script supervisor and assistant director at Red Chillies Entertainment before transitioning to screenwriting.
Her breakthrough came with the 2018 romantic drama Manmarziyaan, which announced her as a writer to watch. Since then, she’s penned some of Bollywood’s most engaging films, tackling everything from psychological thrillers to feminist narratives with considerable skill. Her filmography includes Haseen Dillruba, Rashmi Rocket, Ek Villain Returns, Raksha Bandhan, and Dunki.
Beyond screenwriting, Dhillon is also an accomplished author, having published three novels including Bombay Duck is a Fish and The Dance of Durga. She won the IIFA 2025 Digital Award for Best Story for Do Patti, cementing her status as one of contemporary Hindi cinema’s most valued storytellers.
