Kay Kay Menon has spent thirty years being the best thing in films that were not always worth him. Born Krishna Kumar Menon in Kozhikode in 1966 into a Malayali family and raised in Ambarnath and Pune, he took a physics degree from Mumbai University and an MBA in marketing from Pune, which is a spectacular amount of qualification to walk away from.
Black Friday, Deewar, Sarkar, Shaurya, Gulaal: a run of films through the 2000s where he was reliably the most watchable person on screen. Haider in 2014 finally got the industry to say it out loud, his Khurram Mir winning both a Filmfare and an IIFA for Best Supporting Actor.
Streaming has been very good to him. Himmat Singh in Special Ops made him a lead at 53, and Farzi, The Railway Men and Citadel: Honey Bunny have kept him there. It turns out the format that rewards actors over stars was always going to suit him.
