Kiran Juneja

Kiran Juneja belongs to the era when Indian television could stop a country. Born in New Delhi in 1964 to a doctor father and raised in Punjabi Bagh, she started in 1984 with the Indo-Italian co-production Shaheen as the leading lady, then the serial Paying Guest and Wah Janaab opposite Shekhar Suman.

Buniyaad in 1987 made her. Playing Veeravalii in Ramesh Sippy’s landmark serial about Partition put her in front of an audience that had almost no other choice of what to watch and remembers every frame of it decades later. Then Gangaa in Mahabharat in 1988, another show that is simply part of the national furniture now.

She married Ramesh Sippy, the director of Buniyaad and of Sholay, and the pair are still photographed together at industry nights.
