Mita Vashisht is an Indian actress born on 2 November 1967 in Pune, one of the most intellectually serious performers of Indian film, television and theatre. A National School of Drama graduate, she has worked with avant-garde auteurs like Mani Kaul and Kumar Shahani alongside mainstream directors.
She won a Screen Award for Best Supporting Actress for Govind Nihalani’s Drohkaal (1994), and is remembered for films like Kasba and the popular television serial Trishna. She has long performed a celebrated solo stage play on the medieval Kashmiri mystic Lal Ded.
Cerebral and commanding, she is a formidable presence across every medium she works in.
