Parineeti Chopra

Parineeti Chopra did not take the usual route in. She left India for Manchester Business School and came back with a triple honours degree in business, finance and economics, which is not the CV of someone planning to act for a living. She joined Yash Raj Films to do marketing, and the acting happened almost by accident from there.

Ladies vs Ricky Bahl in 2011 won her the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut. Ishaqzaade followed a year later and earned her a National Film Award Special Mention, which is a serious piece of recognition for a second film. Shuddh Desi Romance and Hasee Toh Phasee turned her into one of the most watchable leads of that stretch, largely because she played women who behaved like people rather than plot devices.

The middle years were quieter, and she has been open about that. Then Saina in 2021 and the black comedy Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar reminded everyone what she does with a real part, and Amar Singh Chamkila in 2024 put her back where she belongs.
