Poonam Dhillon

Poonam Dhillon arrived in Bollywood via the Miss Young India pageant in 1978, catching Yash Chopra’s eye. Her breakout role was the title character in Noorie (1979), which became a major hit and established her as a marketable lead.

Across roughly 90 films, she built a respectable filmography spanning the 1980s and beyond, appearing in ensemble pieces like Naam (1986) and romantic fare such as Sohni Mahiwal (1984). Beyond the screen, she worked in theatre, produced plays in international venues, and pivoted toward the production side of Hindi cinema, notably pioneering and running a makeup services company called VANITY.

Her career later took a political turn when she joined the Congress party in 2004, though her tenure proved brief. She also became a familiar face to reality television audiences as runner-up on Bigg Boss season three, adding another dimension to her decades-long presence in Indian entertainment.
