Rahul Bose is an Indian actor, filmmaker, former rugby international and social activist born on 27 July 1967, once dubbed by Time magazine the superstar of Indian arthouse cinema. He announced himself with the title role in Dev Benegal’s cult English, August (1994).
He built a distinguished parallel-cinema body of work, most notably opposite Konkona Sen Sharma in Aparna Sen’s award-winning Mr. and Mrs. Iyer (2002), alongside crossover hits like Jhankaar Beats and Pyaar Ke Side Effects. He also directs and is active in social causes and sport.
Cerebral and principled, he has always favoured meaning over mainstream stardom.
