Rajat Kapoor

Rajat Kapoor is an Indian actor, filmmaker and playwright born on 11 February 1961 in Delhi, a fixture of thoughtful Hindi cinema on both sides of the camera. As an actor he drew international notice as the troubled uncle in Mira Nair’s Monsoon Wedding (2001), and has appeared in films like Dil Chahta Hai, Bheja Fry and Kapoor & Sons.

As a filmmaker he is known for wry, unconventional work, winning a National Film Award for Raghu Romeo and directing the acclaimed Ankhon Dekhi (2014). He is also a prolific theatre director, notably of clown-mask adaptations of Shakespeare.

Cerebral and independent-minded, he embodies the crossover between India’s arthouse and mainstream.
