Rakesh Bedi

Rakesh Bedi was born December 1, 1954, in New Delhi, and graduated from the Film and Television Institute of India. A performer equally at home on stage and screen, he launched his film career in 1979 and has since appeared in over 150 films. His impeccable comic timing and warm screen presence made him a standout in an era when Hindi cinema was still finding its comedic voice.

He carved an indelible niche through iconic roles in Chashme Buddoor and Mera Damad, but television proved his true domain. From Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi to Yes Boss to Shrimaan Shrimati, Bedi became synonymous with intelligent, accessible comedy that felt genuinely lived-in rather than performed. He worked across decades without becoming dated.

More recently he has anchored ensemble casts in Bhabhi Ji Ghar Par Hain and Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, proving his staying power into the streaming era. He also appeared in the action thrillers Dhurandhar and its sequel. Alongside acting, he remains committed to theatre as performer and director, a commitment that has shaped his restrained, purposeful approach to every medium.
