Rhea Chakraborty started out as an MTV video jockey and built a modest acting career across a handful of Hindi films, the kind of steady mid-level résumé that rarely makes national headlines. Then, in 2020, her name became one of the most searched in the country for reasons that had nothing to do with any of it.

The death of the actor Sushant Singh Rajput, with whom she had been in a relationship, pulled her into a media storm and a legal ordeal that played out with extraordinary public intensity.
