Shraddha Kapoor

Shraddha Kapoor, daughter of the actor Shakti Kapoor, broke through with Aashiqui 2 in 2013, a soft-focus musical romance that also let her sing on its soundtrack, and for a while she seemed set to be typecast as the wide-eyed heartbreak heroine. The Stree films rescued her from that fate.

Vishal Bhardwaj’s Haider gave her early arthouse credibility, but it is the horror-comedy franchise Stree, where she plays a mysterious figure at the centre of a small-town legend, that turned her into a genuine box-office anchor. She is also, quietly, one of the most-followed Indian women on social media, which is its own kind of stardom now.
