Shruti Rajalakshmi Haasan, born 28 January 1986 in Madras, is an Indian actress and musician who inherited her Hollywood-sized ambitions but opted for South Indian cinema instead. Daughter of acclaimed actor Kamal Haasan and actress Sarika Thakur, she performed her first playback song at age six in Thevar Magan before stepping away to study music at California’s Musicians Institute.
She returned to India as a trained vocalist and made her adult acting debut in the Hindi film Luck (2009). Her 2011 Telugu and Tamil launches, Anaganaga O Dheerudu and 7 Aum Arivu, both won her Filmfare Awards for Best Female Debut–South, a rare double that signaled a talent worth watching.
Over the next decade, Haasan became a reliable lead in Telugu blockbusters: Gabbar Singh, Balupu, Yevadu, and Race Gurram established her as a bankable actress across industries. She has collected two Filmfare Awards South and seven SIIMA Awards, balancing film work with her own music projects and appearances as both vocalist and composer in her father’s productions.
