Taapsee Pannu

Taapsee Pannu trained as a software engineer and started in south Indian cinema before Hindi films, which perhaps explains her allergy to the standard heroine script. She built her Bollywood name on films that argue, Pink, about consent, Thappad, about a single slap and everything it exposes in a marriage.

Along the way she has become the industry’s most quotable contrarian, sparring publicly about pay gaps and the nepotism debate in a business that usually rewards silence. Saand Ki Aankh had her playing a sharpshooter in her sixties, and Badla and Dunki kept her commercially in demand. She co-owns a badminton team and an events company on the side.

Married to the Danish badminton player Mathias Boe, she is a paparazzi regular who tends to give the cameras a wry look rather than a pose. We will take either.
