Tara Sutaria started out as a singer and a Disney India television presenter, which is a background that turns up more often than you would think among the current crop of young Hindi leads. She made the film jump with Student of the Year 2 in 2019, the sequel to the Karan Johar launchpad that has minted a whole generation of stars.
The films since, Marjaavaan, Tadap, Ek Villain Returns, have kept her working steadily in glossy commercial territory without yet handing her the role that reframes the career. The survival thriller Apurva showed a harder edge and hinted at where she might go next.
