Plenty of people knew Vedika Pinto’s face long before they knew her name. Born in Mumbai in 1995, she came up through modelling and commercials, and then Ritviz’s Liggi happened. That music video stopped being a song and became an internet event, one of the most streamed Indian indie tracks there has been, and she was the reason people kept rewatching it.
The hard part is what comes after a moment like that, and she has handled it better than most. Operation Romeo put her in a film, Gumraah put her opposite Aditya Roy Kapur, and Nishaanchi handed her Rangeeli Rinku in an Anurag Kashyap picture, which is not a line many actors get to add this early.
She also turned up in Taba Chake’s Walk With Me alongside Rohit Saraf, which is the other half of how her audience found her: not through a studio, but through music.
