Wamiqa Gabbi is proof that the overnight-success story is often a decade in the making. She had been working steadily across Punjabi, Hindi, Malayalam and Tamil films and television for years, mostly unnoticed by the mainstream Hindi audience, before a run of streaming projects abruptly made her one of the most talked-about actresses around.

Vikramaditya Motwane’s period series Jubilee and Vishal Bhardwaj’s Khufiya, both in 2023, were the turning point, showcasing an expressive, old-school screen presence that felt genuinely distinctive. Bhardwaj clearly agreed, casting her repeatedly since. It is the kind of belated breakthrough that tends to produce a grounded sort of star.

Now firmly in demand, she is a growing paparazzi draw on the Mumbai circuit. Our cameras have started to catch her far more often.
