A generation of India still calls her Anandi, which tells you exactly how hard Balika Vadhu landed. Avika Gor was born in Mumbai in 1997 into a Gujarati family and was a child artist when that show made her one of the most recognised faces in the country, playing a child bride in a serial that genuinely shifted the national conversation.
Roli in Sasural Simar Ka kept her there through her teens. Between them she has four ITA Awards, which is a serious haul for someone who was not yet twenty.
Then she did the sensible thing and rebuilt somewhere else. Morning Walk in 2009 was her film debut, and Uyyala Jampala in 2013 took her to Telugu cinema and won her the SIIMA Award for Best Female Debut. It let her grow up as an adult actor rather than remain the child everyone remembered, which is the hardest transition in this business.
