Siddhant Chaturvedi was on track to be a chartered accountant, which is the least likely origin story in Hindi cinema. Born in Ballia in 1993 and in Mumbai from the age of five, son of a CA father, he went to Mithibai College fully intending to follow the same path and acted on stage because he could not help it.
Inside Edge got him on screen from 2017, playing a teenage cricketer. The turn came at a success party for that show, where Zoya Akhtar spotted him and asked him to audition for her next film. That film was Gully Boy.
MC Sher is one of those debuts that rearranges a career in a single scene. He won the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor for it, and did the rare thing of stealing a film from Ranveer Singh without appearing to try.
Since then the interesting work has mostly been on streaming: Gehraiyaan in 2022 and Kho Gaye Hum Kahan in 2023, both films that asked him to be uncomfortable rather than cool.
