There is one person at a film’s success party who has more riding on it than anyone, and at the Main Vaapas Aaunga celebration that was Imtiaz Ali, who directed it. The cameras gave him the attention the occasion earned.

Ali is one of Hindi cinema’s defining voices on romance, the filmmaker behind Jab We Met, Love Aaj Kal, Rockstar and Tamasha, films that a generation quotes back word for word. His Amar Singh Chamkila in 2024 showed he had plenty left to say. A success party for his own film is a rare night where the man usually behind the camera stands in front of it.
