Ajay Devgn

Ajay Devgn made his entrance in 1991 doing the splits between two moving motorcycles, and the image stuck: the intense, still-faced action lead who lets everyone else do the talking. Underneath the stoicism, though, is a two-time (later three-time) National Award winner, which is not a haul the industry hands out to mere tough guys.

Zakhm and The Legend of Bhagat Singh made the serious case; the Golmaal comedies proved he could be broad and silly when he felt like it; and Drishyam and Tanhaji kept him firmly commercial deep into a career most actors would have wound down by then. He directs and produces too, running his own outfit.

Married to Kajol, he is half of one of Bollywood’s more private power couples, which only makes the paparazzi keener whenever the family steps out. He remains a fixture the lenses never quite tire of.
