Deepika Padukone

Deepika Padukone was born in Copenhagen to the badminton champion Prakash Padukone, raised in Bangalore, and arrived in Bollywood via modelling, which on paper reads like a familiar debutante story. What followed was not familiar at all. After the fairy-tale launch of Om Shanti Om in 2007 she went through a wobble, and then rebuilt herself into the most bankable actress of her generation.

Cocktail was the turn, Piku showed the comic timing, and the run of Sanjay Leela Bhansali period films, Ram-Leela, Bajirao Mastani and Padmaavat, gave her the grand register that defines her now. She has also been unusually candid about her experience of depression, which shifted how the industry talks about mental health.
